Do not park in the road between the school and the football field, the buses will need to park there. Please use either parking lot.

All students, along with their parent, will go through the check-in process. Please be sure your student visits each station. We will have color-coded bag tags that will coordinate with your cabin color. Please look for the coordinating color flag for your cabin color in the bus line. Be sure to load your luggage on the correct bus. ALL students have a bus assignment they will follow to and from Away Camp. They may NOT switch buses with another student.

We are in need of overnight and daily chaperones. We must maintain a 1:8 ratio of chaperones to students, and we welcome you to be part of the camp experience. Camp will not happen without enough volunteers. If you need to come a little later and/or leave a little earlier in the morning please indicate that on your signup, we can be flexible for those of you who work.

All volunteers (with the exception of overnight chaperones and restroom monitors), will check-in at the Marching Field and go to the RED pop-up tent. This tent will have sign-in and sign-out sheets for you as well as your yellow volunteer lanyard to wear.

If you want to see the magic happen at the Band Camps, the best way is to VOLUNTEER!

Each student may bring an 18 gallon tote OR medium size suitcase or duffel bag, as well as their snack tub. Your student will need to bring a pillow, sheets/blanket or sleeping bag. Your student can put their bedding in a garbage bag (labeled) and put it on top of their tub when they carry it. Remember your student will need to carry all of their items to their cabins, so pack wisely! 

Please make sure your child coordinates any fans with their bunk mates, there are only so many outlets. Each student may bring one 16x11x7 sized tote that closes securely for snacks. You MAY NOT bring drinks that have a screw top lid. Cans, juice boxes, powdered Gatorade is fine. There are NO refrigerators in the cabins.

Do not pack snacks with nuts, due to our many nut allergies. 

*All bags will be checked by a parent volunteer, make sure all items in the bags are necessary for camp! We will ask a parent volunteer to take any items we feel unnecessary back home with you i.e.: 4 containers of shaving cream or duct tape is not needed!

Medication will be checked in with Medical Staff at Station 2 of check-in. See below about Medication.

Medications to be brought to Away Camp MUST be in a 1 Gallon Ziploc in their original containers. Label the bag with students’ name AND the STUDENT’S cell phone number. We need this in case your student does not come to get their prescribed medicines when they are supposed to. All Medication to be taken must be on the Medication Authorization form. 

If your child's medicines have changed please turn in a new medication authorization form during the first few days of Home Camp, NOT the morning of Away Camp. 

Please know, this is not the week to go off your medication. Students should see the medical volunteer for their medications at the designated time. Please be prompt to the med table (in the dining hall). We will seek you out to take your meds should you forget.

We will provided any over-the-counter medications as needed as per your student information form in Membership Toolkit. 

ALL EPI pens and inhalers will be on the student’s person at all times.

Please send a second EPI pen and inhaler to camp and give to the medical volunteer during check-in on Monday morning, in case they need it or lose the first one, we will have it.

The medical staff will be located with us at the field and at the Pavilion for full ensemble rehearsals. The medical staff will be stationed in the Dining Hall during rec time / sectionals. During medication distribution they will be in the Dining Hall. If you are not feeling well, you must go to one of the medical professionals or Mrs. H.

Do not hang back in your cabin; we will come looking for you.

By now, you should have already submitted your criminal history and rules and regulations forms at registration or uploaded to MTK. 

Due July 12th are your Physical, YMCA Risk Waiver, Field Trip Authorization and the Medication Authorization forms. These can be turned-in in person in the WLN Commons from  5 - 8 pm (preferred) or uploaded into your account in MTK. If uploading, please SCAN the form and do not take a picture as they do not print clear. To scan a document from your iphone:

1. Open Notes and select a note or create a new one
2. Tap the Camera button , then tap Scan Documents
3. Place your document in view of the camera
4. If your device is in Auto mode, your document will automatically scan
5. Tap Save or add additional scans to the document

If you have any questions at all about your forms, please come in and see us on the 12th. We will have lists of all turned in forms.

To answer some frequently asked questions:

• Yes, you must fill out the health form portion of the YMCA form even though you provided a physical. This is handed in directly to YMCA prior to our arrival.
• Yes, you must put in the date of your students last tetanus shot. You should keep a record of this as it is asked each year. If you do not know it, please call your doctors office, prior to submitting the form.
• No, you do not need to turn-in a Medication Authorization form if your student does not take prescription medications. Do not list OTCs as you've already given permission on the Student Information form you filled out at registration.
• No, your student cannot bring Tylenol, Motrin, etc. We will have OTC medication on-hand to provide on request.

Soon will be that time again for our most important and biggest fundraiser of the year – the Michigan Daily 3 drawing. ALL families are expected to participate in this fundraiser. Look for an email to come before camp. Full information and tickets will be handed out at away camp check-in.

We welcome you to both Home and Away camp in the role of a volunteer. Please sign up for a job if you wish to come to camp. It is a distraction for you to arrive unannounced to both the student and camp. Camp Ohiyesa does not allow visitors to their campus and will not allow unscheduled visitors on site.

We all need to remember that band camp is Mrs. Hulliberger's classroom. As you wouldn't show up at Northern in January expecting to walk into her classroom, consider camp the same way. We love our volunteers who have signed-up to make camp run smoothly, you cannot, however, show up unscheduled to watch or to meet with your student.

Please know that the cell service at Camp Ohiyesa is spotty at best and your student is very busy learning and having fun. In the event of an emergency, please contact the camp’s main office (248-887-4533). Please know your child is well taken care of.
