Marching Band News
We closed out the season with an epic performance with the highest decibels possible before we blew Grandma and Grandpa's hearing aides out. The gym concert is a fan favorite, and let's give it up for those middle schoolers!! WOW! They sounded incredible. The band fam is only going to get bigger, stronger, and louder! Let's go band!!!
Thank you Sarah Fike for making sure our marching band was looking snazzy all season long. Uniforms were turned in on Tuesday after the concert with the help of our parent volunteers. Thank you to everyone who lent a hand that evening. If you did not turn in your uniform, please do so yesterday (ASAP). Thank you!!
Friday night, we will close out our season with a great celebration. It is going to be a wonderful night. Thank you to our new banquet chair person, Michelle Brandon, for taking over the planning and execution of the event this year. Thank you to Ruth Jeffries and Val DePotter for ensuring the band is, once again, fed well during our banquet. As we send you both off into the sunset of retired food reps, may you always remember us when you pass a Costco or Little Caesars. Thank you to all of the volunteers that have helped make this night happen for all of our students and families. It couldn't have been done without you!
The next time THIS marching band will be together will be in the spring when there will be rehearsals for the Memorial Day Parade. Thank you for a rockin' season full of Knight Moves!
When in Rome...We March!
If you haven't heard the news, the band is going to Rome December 27, 2006-January 3, 2007!

BAND NEWS
The first concert this year was a success, and the crowd was entertained by the four bands showing off their skills that they honed in just a few short months.
Looking ahead to the Collage Concert which will be two nights of fun, festive, holiday fanfare! The concerts will take place on Wednesday, December 10th and Thursday, December 11th at 7pm in the WLN auditorium. Each night will provide the exact same holiday magic and tunes for you to enjoy, so pick your night, grab Grandma so she doesn't get run over by any reindeers, because tickets go on sale Saturday, November 15th at 9am. Don't hit the snooze button this day because tickets will sell out. You can purchase your tickets online HERE
CHOIR NEWS
Choir also had their first concert this year, and it was a smashing success. Students performed beautifully, and audience feedback was extremely positive, as always! It was so lovely when all of the choirs joined together to give us a beautiful rendition of Lean on Me.
Heartfelt thanks to the boosters for covering the costs of the accompanist, guitarist, and percussionist.
Their support made a huge impact on the success of the fall concert, and we are deeply grateful.
On Saturday, November 8th, 17 students performed at Oxford High School at the MSVMA Musical Theatre Solo & Ensemble. Our students represented WLN by showcasing their incredible talent. Congratulations students!
Students have been Ginda-vited to the Wicked For Good screening party at MJR in Waterford on November 25th. Everyone is excited to follow the yellow brick road that will leave us feeling changed for the better.
Choir will be making it's way to the Collage Concert as well. Tickets are on sale Saturday! Don't know what I am talking about? Activate upward-scroll mode for the ticket details!
ORCHESTRA NEWS
The Orchestra cast a spellbinding Halloween show on October 29th. It was a night filled with no tricks, just treats of musical notes that gave us chills. The costumes were frighteningly funny for a fang-tasticly good time.
Looking ahead: Pastor Judd Delancey offered the sanctuary at his Church, the Shepard of the Lakes, for a Chamber Concert on November 19th. Students in Philharmonic will arrive at 6pm and perform at 6:30. Students in Symphony will arrive at 6:30 and perform at 7pm. There will be an offering taken which will be split between the church and the orchestra. The orchestra and Mrs. Phillips are grateful for this opportunity!
Orchestra will ALSO be at the Collage Concert, isn't that just amazing? If you are still reading this newsletter, 1. I love you. 2. The information about purchasing tickets is in the Band News section. 3. If you are reading this and you didn't see the information about purchasing Collage tickets, it might be time for new glasses. **Disclaimer: The Music Boosters cannot and will not replace glasses lost due to excessive enthusiasm while reading this newsletter.**
Travel Opportunity!
The Orchestra from WLN and WLC will be traveling to Chicago during mid-winter break! The dates are February 19th-21st. Please contact Mrs. Phillips for more information.
HELP WANTED: The Music Boosters is looking for an orchestra representative. This person would give us the inside scoop on all things orchestra. If you know someone who might be interested, please contact Liz Vachon at lizvachon@gmail.com.
WE WANT YOU!
There are so many ways to get involved with your child's musical passion and here are some current/future needs to make our program successful:
Orchestra Representative: Attends the booster meetings monthly and reports on all things orchestra.
Vice President: In March, we will be electing a new Vice President, our VP will be graduating this year! If you are interested in learning more about this position, please let Liz Vachon know.
Band Rep: Without this positions filled, there won't be a band camp, so please consider volunteering. This position includes attending to the students well-being at camp and games, coordinate all of the marching band communications/events, and organizes transportation/schedules camps. Yes, this sounds like a lot, but we have a manual for you and a ton of support.
Band Rep Volunteer Coordinator: This position will work side-by-side with the band reps and will be an integral part in ensuring our camps, football games, festivals, and events will run smoothly with volunteers. This person is responsible for managing the sign-up genius forms for every event that requires volunteers, ensuring that all volunteers have a criminal history form on file, being at the start of most events, and being at band camp (not required to stay overnight). This is a position that a band rep has been doing, but it seems as though it would be better suited to be a band rep adjacent position. If you would like more information, please contact Liz Vachon
We just need two willing people who enjoy being a team player, understands the vision of the marching band, and can give their heart to an organization that almost 200 students utilize as their gateway to lifelong friendships, socialization, exercise, music enhancement, leadership opportunities, and college essay material. Imagine YOU could be the person that creates all that and more for about 200 people. The impact you will have on so many students goes beyond just getting someone to donate enough grapes for a football game. Want to learn more? Contact Liz Vachon
Student & Parent Highlights
The Delancey Family
This month we would like to highlight the Delancey family. We are so grateful for their support to the music program at Northern. Here is what they had to say about their experience.
"The music program at Walled Lake Northern has helped our family connect with our community in unexpected and meaningful ways. Called to be the pastor at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, we moved to Commerce in 2018, Moving to a new state and school district can be stressful, but we have found it to be a blessing, especially seeing how our daughter, Josie has developed a love for music and plans to continue with music education into college. When we went to the Orchestra Information and instrument trial meeting at CHS in sixth grade, we could never have imagined it would lead to us spending our Friday nights watching Josie play the electric bass on the sidelines of a football game. Some of our favorite memories will be of her laughing and smiling on the sidelines with her band friends as they get ready to go on the field. We will always be grateful for what the music program has done for Josie and the way it has helped us make a new home right here in this place. As our kids graduate and move on, we are excited to keep building on the connections we have made. Our church will host the Orchestra Chamber Recital Concerts on Nov. 19th and 20th, hope to see you there."
Pastor Judd Delancey and Family
We can't wait to be there, Pastor Judd! Thank you for the invitation. Your support is instrumental to our success!
If you would like to nominate a student and/or a parent to be featured in our newsletter, please contact Liz Vachon at lizvachon@gmail.com We are looking for band, choir, and orchestra students and parents that are having fun being involved in our program.
