📝 Check-In Process:
All students must complete the check-in process with a parent or guardian. Be sure your student visits each station during check-in.

🎒 Bag Tags & Cabin Colors:

Students will receive color-coded bag tags that match their assigned cabin color. Look for the matching color flag in the bus line to find your cabin group.

🚌 Bus Assignments:
Each student has a specific bus assignment for travel to and from Away Camp. Students must ride their assigned bus and are not allowed to switch buses with others. Make sure all luggage is loaded onto the correct bus.

We’re calling on our amazing Marching Knights families—we need your help to make camp happen! We must maintain a 1:8 chaperone-to-student ratio, and we’re looking for both overnight and daily chaperones to join us.

💛 Volunteer Expectations
 As part of the Marching Knights community, we ask that each family volunteers at least three times and contributes to our food donations. Your support is essential!

🌙 Overnight Chaperones Needed
Each night, we must have 19 overnight chaperones (11 female and 8 male) to keep camp running. Please consider staying for a night—you’ll be making a huge difference. And if you see one of our superstar parents who signs up for multiple nights, be sure to thank them!

📍 Volunteer Check-In
All volunteers (except overnight chaperones and restroom monitors) should check in at the Marching Field at the RED pop-up tent. There, you’ll find sign-in/out sheets and your yellow volunteer lanyard.

To make our Away Camp at Camp Ohiyesa a success, we need help transporting both of our trailers. We already have one amazing volunteer hauling one trailer—but we still need someone to tow our 30-foot trailer.

If you have a truck capable of towing a trailer of this size (bonus if it has a hitch!) and are available, we’d be incredibly grateful for your help!

📅 Trailer Transport Schedule:

• To Camp Ohiyesa: Monday, July 28th. Arrive by 8:30 AM to hook-up and leave for Camp before the busses by 8:55 AM
• To Walled Lake Central for Preview Show & Return to CHS: Saturday, August 2nd starting at 11:00 AM

Parents and Students, be sure to fully read the 2025 WLNMB Band Regulations for important information. The document includes the rules and regulations as well as the packing list needed for camp.

Each student may bring:

• One (1) 18-gallon tote OR medium-sized suitcase/duffel bag (labeled)
• One (1) snack tote (16x11x7 inches, must close securely)
• Bedding: Pillow + sheets/blanket OR sleeping bag (can be in a labeled garbage bag placed on top of the main tote)

🍿 Snack Rules

• No drinks with screw-top lids
  • ✅ OK: Cans, juice boxes, powdered Gatorade
• Snack tote must close securely
• Good idea to pack snacks with protein

🛏️ Cabin Notes

• Students must carry all their items to the cabin themselves
• Coordinate fans and power strips with bunkmates (limited outlets)
• No refrigerators in cabins

🚫 What NOT to Pack

• No unnecessary items (e.g., multiple shaving cream cans, duct tape)
• All bags will be checked by a parent volunteer
• Unnecessary items will be sent home with parents

💊 Medication

• Medication should not be packed. It must be checked in with Medical Volunteers at Station 2 during check-in

✅ What to Do

• Place all medications in a 1-gallon Ziploc bag
  • Meds must be in original containers
    • We will have labels for the bag with Student’s full name and Student’s cell phone number
• Ensure all medications are listed on the Medication Authorization Form
• If there are any changes to medications, submit a new form during Home Camp (not the morning of Away Camp!!!)

⏰ During Camp

• Students must go to the med table in the dining hall at the designated time
• If a student forgets, medical volunteers will seek them out to ensure meds are taken
• Do not skip medications during camp week

🩺 Emergency Medications

• EpiPens and inhalers must be carried by the student at all times
• Send a second EpiPen and/or inhaler to be kept with the medical volunteer at check-in

🧴 Over-the-Counter Meds

• Provided by Medical Volunteers as needed, based on your registration form

Medical volunteers will be located with us at the field and at the Pavilion for full ensemble rehearsals. During recreational time and sectionals, they will be stationed in the Dining Hall. Medication distribution will also take place in the Dining Hall at designated times. 

If you are not feeling well at any point, it is important that you report directly to one of the medical volunteers or to Mrs. H. Please do not remain in your cabin if you are unwell—we will come find you to ensure you receive the care you need. 

All Walled Lake Schools Code of Conduct rules and expectations are in effect. No student may enter the cabin of the opposite sex. Each student must attend every scheduled event. Camp boundaries will be outlined when we get to camp, and students must stay within the allotted area. There are other campers at the YMCA camp, we must respect their program as they will respect ours. Students are expected to use appropriate language and be conscious of subject matter. 

Soon will be that time again for our most important and biggest fundraiser of the year – the Michigan Daily 3 drawing. ALL families are expected to participate in this fundraiser. Look for an email to come before camp. Full information and tickets will be handed out at away camp check-in.

We all need to remember that band camp is Mrs. Hulliberger's classroom. As you wouldn't show up at Northern in January expecting to walk into her classroom, consider camp the same way. We love our volunteers who have signed-up to make camp run smoothly, you cannot, however, show up unscheduled to watch or to meet with your student.

We welcome you to both Home and Away camp in the role of a volunteer. Please sign up for a job if you wish to come to camp. It is a distraction for you to arrive unannounced to both the student and camp. Camp Ohiyesa does not allow visitors to their campus and will not allow unscheduled visitors on site.

Please know that the cell service at Camp Ohiyesa is spotty at best and your student is very busy learning and having fun. In the event of an emergency and you can't get ahold of your student, please contact the camp’s main office (248-887-4533). Please know your child is well taken care of.
